Liam Möller
What particularly fascinates you about music? Probably that music is an art form that moves in time and therefore always happens in the moment, so to speak. So I am all the more fascinated by the feeling while making music, when the usual sense of space and time in everyday life dissolves and the music and musical expression feels and is absolute at that moment. It could be called a kind of Zen state, in which you can express the feelings of your deep inner self without thought and merge as well as possible with the music in the room. This feeling is extraordinarily intense and special when it comes to a kind of collective fusion with the music - naturally when playing together with other musicians.
Which musician has personally influenced you the most so far? Ich denke es ist Kurt Rosenwinkel. Ich bin schon länger Fan von seinem musikalischem Schaffen, aber er schafft es immer wieder mich noch ein kleines Stück mehr zu faszinieren und inspirieren. Er ist natürlich ein unfassbarer Gitarrist dessen tiefes Verständnis für Harmonie und Melodie -vor allem auf der Gitarre- gefühlt unerschöpflich ist. Kombiniert mit seiner einzigartigen Sensibilität für Sound, der sich ständig im Wandel befindet und stetig neue Dimensionen erreicht, sind seine Darbietungen total mitreißend und energetisierend. Dazu hat er als Komponist ein vielseitiges und umfangreiches Universum mit seiner Musik geschaffen. Auch da ist es sehr spannend die verschiedenen "Epochen" seiner Entwicklung zu Entdecken. Ein weiter sehr großer Einfluss und Wegbegleiter von fast Anfang an ist die Musik von Paul Motion. Ich liebe seine Stücke, Melodien und vor allem die Art und Weise zu musizieren, die dadurch geschaffen wird.
Which band/soloists have you always wanted to be on stage with? Rita Payés, Esperanza Spalding or Dhafer Youssef
What is your life like outside of music? Pretty basic. I like to cook, go for walks and look for refreshing moments in everyday life. I also like visiting people I really love in other cities and generally hanging out with friends. I like to play Skat or Doppelkopf and I also enjoy dancing.
Liam Möller (*2004 in Dresden) is a jazz guitarist living in Cologne. He received classical guitar lessons from childhood and also attended the music high school in Schwerin, where he was able to experience trombone lessons and versatile ensemble practice. When he attended the summer jazz workshop in Schleswig Holstein and joined the school big band, he discovered his interest in jazz music.
In 2022 he took part in the Federal Youth Jazz Meeting in a duo formation with saxophonist Caspar Rutsch. "Razzmatazz" won a concert prize and also played performances in Mecklenburg, Leipzig and Hanover.
In October 2022 Liam will begin studying music at the HMTM Hanover. There he studied jazz guitar with Arne Jansen, jazz trombone with Erik Konzert and also received classical guitar lessons from Prof. Frank Bungarten.
Since October 2024 he has been studying at the Hfmt Cologne with Prof. Hanno Busch. In addition to his activities as part of the Hamburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Youth Jazz Orchestras, he has concentrated on musical work and concerts with the contemporary jazz band "Quadrat" in Hanover and surrounding cities over the last year. Since this year he has also been playing with his Cologne quartet "Ürdig 15" and the experimental trio "Drift".
