What do you find particularly fascinating about music? I am very lucky to be a musician because I truly believe that music is the best of all arts. I am fascinated by the way it interacts with us on all levels. As a physical phenomenon, we perceive it with our bodies; rhythm and groove are felt by all living things. On the other hand, our intelligent, complex brain creates images from the many relationships of frequencies and overtones, using all cultural knowledge. All of this bubbles and mixes on all levels of perception and moves us from tears to smiles. Music is a pure injection of emotion that can be shared with others.
Which musician has influenced you personally the most so far? It would be very difficult to pick one musician: I have always listened to all kinds of things and mixed musical styles as often as I could. So I'll name the Brecker Brothers, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane and John Scofield. And Stevie Wonder. And I like Bach... And I like Led Zeppelin... And Wes Montgomery... (I told you it was very difficult!)
Which band/soloist have you always wanted to be on stage with? With Snarky Puppy!
What is your life like outside of music? When I have a day off, I try to get out of the city because I absolutely love nature. I like to meet up with friends and we cook together, it's always nice and relaxing. I also like reading. Sometimes I dance. And in general, I just like to move around.
